Daniel Short wrote a good tutorial on Working With DataShaping at Dreamweaver FAQ.com. The tutorial also provides links to Dreamweaver MX-compatible Snippets you can download to streamline the process.

I'd like to see a tutorial on creating nested repeat regions in ASP.NET.

Added some items to the Ingredients section. CF XHTML Editor consists of a set of extensions for Dreamweaver MX for use in a Content Management System (CMS), centered around a custom Macromedia ColdFusion tag. Since I mention it in Chapter 16, I thought you might want to give it a spin.

Also added links to download ColdFusion MX Server, SQL Server, and MSDE.

Here are some updated links to download the software required for the book:

1) SQL Server 2000 (120-day trial)
2) SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE)
3) ColdFusion MX Server Developer Edition

If you're interested in developing ASP.NET pages, you might want to experiment with Web Matrix, a free ASP.NET editor that also includes a "mini" web server (Windows 2000/XP). Web Matrix is essentially a slimmed-down version of Visual Studio .NET.

Interesting article explaining why Most Software Stinks! Makes a strong case for writing readable code if anyone is to "debug it, modify it, extend it, scale it, etc."

Did you notice that Code Fragment B resembles the code generated by Dreamweaver's behaviors? The code may take up fewer lines, but good luck trying to decipher how it works, or even what it's doing!

Found a good article on CSS: HTML Utopia - Designing Without Tables.

Examples:

1. Dan's Shorts
2. A List Apart
3. SitePoint

Tutorials:

1. Practical CSS Layout
2. The Layout Reservoir
3. CSS Layout Techniques
4. Positioning with CSS

So long, spacer GIFs!

Added two new tutorials to the Recipes section:

1. Batch Deletes Made Simple
2. Batch Inserts

"Batch Deletes Made Simple" explains how to enable batch deletes via check boxes in 3 simple steps. "Batch Inserts" adapts the code from Chapter 16 of The Joy of Dreamweaver MX to enable batch inserts via a list box.

Later this week, I'll try to post a tutorial on using Dreamweaver's new DataGrid server behavior for ASP.NET.

Ugh! Blogger hasn't worked for days now (Error 503). I like the idea of blogging, but I thought it was supposed to make things easier. I lost half a day trying to figure out how to make the blog archive appear in reverse chronological order. I wonder if Blogger Pro users go through this. (If anyone's interested, I'll post the ASP code in the Recipes section when I have time.)

In any case, very excited about the countdown to The Joy of Dreamweaver MX. McGraw-Hill/Osborne issued a press release about the book today, and it should hit stores on Thursday.

The sample code includes examples in ASP.NET, but it wasn't practical to include it in the book (presenting examples in ASP/VBScript and ColdFusion MX was challenging enough!). I'm planning to add some tutorials to the Recipes section to explain how the ASP.NET examples were created. For instance, Dreamweaver's new DataGrid server behavior is pretty impressive. I used it to create the ASP.NET version of the Batch Update page from Chapter 16 (even though, strictly speaking, it's only updating one record at a time).

You can now read a sample chapter of The Joy of Dreamweaver MX on UDzone. Chapter 13, "Uploads Made Simple," explains in detail how to use George Petrov's Pure ASP File Upload extension, and ActivEdit — CFDev.com's custom ColdFusion tag — to add a file upload feature to your site.

I'm in New York on vacation and didn't have access to a computer until today.

This week, I'm going to post a sample chapter from The Joy of Dreamweaver MX: "Uploads Made Simple." This chapter walks you through using Pure ASP File Upload and ActivEdit (ColdFusion) with Dreamweaver MX. I'll also post the book's table of contents.
