Merry Christmas from Newman Zone! 1:15 PM
As a gift to visitors of Newman Zone, I've decided to make Thumbs Up free! This ASP.NET/VB extension enables you to upload images and generate thumbnails on-the-fly.

Look out for a new extension, ActivEdit, early next year. This extension, which includes a free trial version of ActivEdit, embeds a WYSIWYG editor into any HTML form. ActivEdit is ideal for web-based content management, and the extension will support the following server models: ASP, ColdFusion, and JSP. Future versions will add support for ASP.NET and PHP. For more information, visit CFDEV.com.

Merry Christmas!

What's New on DesDev 5:07 PM
Some good new articles on DesDev:

* Creating a Dynamic XML Menu by Ben Forta. I've been threatening to write an XML menu tutorial for a while now. Ben beat me to it.

* Five Steps to More Professional Pages with Dreamweaver MX by Drew McLellan. I especially like the tip about exporting your site without template mark-up.

* Move Your Desktop Software into the Browser by Edoardo Zubler. Learn how to create an FTP client using Flash Remoting and ColdFusion MX.

There's also a free Rich Internet Application Starter Kit available for download, but I haven't had time to check it out yet.

Dreamweaver 6.1 5:33 PM
Macromedia has just released a Dreamweaver MX Updater to make the software compatible with Contribute. This update is highly recommended, even if you don't use Contribute, because it includes a myriad of bug fixes.

One caveat: make sure to disable all your Dreamweaver MX extensions using the Extension Manager before applying the update. According to the Release Notes: "If you install the Updater while Dreamweaver MX extensions are enabled, the extensions will disappear from the Dreamweaver menus...After you have installed the Updater and started Dreamweaver MX for the first time, use the Extension Manager to re-enable your extensions."
